Legalisation of Documents and Private Papers Print E-mail

The Consular section is entitled to legalise or certify some documents under special conditions. Legalisation simply means confirming that a signature, seal or stamp appearing on a document is genuine. It does not mean that the content of a document is accurate or that the Embassy approves of the content.

If you are going to use
British documents in Bulgaria, for business or personal reasons, you will probably be asked to have your documents stamped by us before they can be accepted. If you are not sure what documents need to be legalised you should contact the authority who require the documents. Advice can often be found at the relevant web page.

We cannot advise you on which documents you need to legalise. You should contact the authority that requires the documents to obtain this information.

In order to have a British document certified at the Bulgarian Embassy, you should first have it translated by one of the certified translator from the list on the Embassy’s website.
